Six To Nine Month Child Development Chart (6 - 9 months)
Imitates gestures of adults
Responds to noises that are not visible and searches for hidden objects
Looks at pictures in books
Begins to play games with an adult, like peek-a-boo
Vocalizes for attention
Reaches for a desired toy
Move toward or looks at family member when named
Responds to ‘come here’ (scoots, rolls)
Vocalizes in response to objects that move
Shouts or vocalizes to gain attention
Produces a variety of sounds (consonants, vowels)
Says things like ‘bababa, dadada, dagu, maga,’ etc
Plays with voice in turn-taking manner with adult
Pulls up by himself
Stands, bumps down and tries to get back up
Stretches out with one hand to grasp a small toy and passes the toys hand to hand
Can poke at small things with index finger and begins to point
Looks to an adult if uncertain about an object or toy
Enjoys knocking down a stack of blocks
May start to drink from a cup (with adult holding it)
Opens mouth to anticipate food coming
Nine To Twelve Month Child Development Chart (9 - 12 months)
Plays peek-a-boo
Waves ‘hi’ & ‘bye’
Holds out a toy to show others
Uses play toys in realistic ways (i.e. feeds a baby with a bottle or cup, brushes hair, picks up a phone to listen/say ‘hi’)
Plays 2-3 minutes with a single toy
Takes stack rings apart and puts them together again
Hands a toy back to an adult
Responds to questions from mother, ‘want up’?
Points to two body parts
Imitates in games such as “So Big”
Says “Mama” and “Dada”
Says 1-2 words spontaneously
Repeats sounds and syllables that an adults says
requests a toy by pointing, vocalizing, or looking at the toy
Follows simple directions
Brings a toy to parent to continue the game if he/she cannot do it alone
Pulls up to stand and begins walking around 12 months
Begins to develop the pincer grasp and picks up small objects with finger and thumb
Shows an understanding of a few names/objects such as “Where’s your __bottle, __shoe,__ball___etc”
Looks at direction parent is pointing when parent says “look!”
Enjoys music and dances
Enjoys playing with different textures, water, sand, foam
